September in Maremma: A summer that never ends between nature and enchanted villages
In September, summer is coming to an end, but here in Maremma the sun continues to shine and September days offer a perfect mix of warmth, tranquility and breathtaking landscapes. If you're thinking about an off-season vacation, this is the ideal time to discover a more authentic and relaxed side of our splendid land. Forget the August crowds and get ready to live unique experiences, immersed in lush nature and villages rich in history.
September is the perfect month for outdoor activities. The milder temperatures make excursions and walks more pleasant.
- Trekking and biking in Maremma Park: The trails of the Maremma Regional Park are a true paradise. You can rent a bicycle at the Campsite and cycle along the bike path that crosses pine forests and olive groves, or venture on panoramic trekking that will take you to discover hidden coves, watchtowers and the charm of Mediterranean scrubland. Don't forget to keep your eyes open: you might spot deer, foxes and the famous butteri on horseback.
- SUP, canoe and snorkeling trips: The sea of Castiglione della Pescaia and surroundings, with its Blue Flag, is still warm and crystal clear. It's ideal for a SUP or canoe trip along the coast, starting from Rocchette Beach, exploring inlets and hidden bays. Snorkeling enthusiasts will find, just a few meters deep from the Camping beach, rich underwater life to explore.
- Horse riding: if you want to live a typically Maremman experience, why not try a horse ride? The area's riding schools offer excursions that will take you through pine forests and trails, giving a different and fascinating perspective on the surrounding landscape.
- Sports at Camping Village: also within Baia Azzurra you can practice sports, thanks to our Padel, Football, Beach Volleyball and Tennis courts, as well as Aquagym and the equipped Fitness Area, all to have fun with friends and stay fit without leaving the Village!
In short, if you're sporty and love outdoor activities, we're waiting for you in September at Camping Village Baia Azzurra!
And after a day of outdoor activities, what could be better than getting lost in the streets of a medieval village and taking a dive into the past? Maremma is rich in gems that in September, without the summer crowds, show themselves in all their splendor.
- Castiglione della Pescaia: let's start with the village that hosts us! The medieval Castle of Castiglione dominates the entire promontory and offers a breathtaking view of the sea and pine forest. Going up to the top for an aperitif at sunset is a must! Its narrow streets and artisan shops will make you fall in love.
- Massa Marittima: a true masterpiece of medieval architecture, about 30 minutes by car from us. Its main square, with the majestic Cathedral of San Cerbone, is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. Getting lost in the alleys and admiring the ancient palaces is an unforgettable experience.
- Vetulonia and Roselle: if you're passionate about Etruscan history, you can't miss these two archaeological sites. Vetulonia, a few kilometers from Castiglione, was one of the twelve Etruscan lucumonies and offers a fascinating museum and necropolis. Roselle, near Grosseto, preserves the remains of a Roman city and a well-preserved amphitheater.
- Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana: known as "the tuff villages", they are about an hour and a half by car but absolutely worth a visit. Carved into the rock, these towns seem almost one with the surrounding landscape. Pitigliano is the "Little Jerusalem" for its Jewish history, Sovana offers a unique Etruscan necropolis and will enchant you with its streets carved into the tuff.
September is also notably a period rich in food and wine events such as the Porcino Mushroom Festival, the Tortelli and Squid Festival and the Frog Festival, as well as being ideal for visiting the numerous wineries in the Castiglione della Pescaia area for local wine tastings.
September in Maremma is also synonymous with tranquility for the whole family, especially for those with small children thanks to mild temperatures, lush nature and unexpected discoveries.
Choosing Camping Village Baia Azzurra as a base for your adventures and relaxation is ideal for abandoning yourself to the charm of this land!
