Food and wine
Like the rest of Tuscany, Maremma is the ideal place for wine lovers. Whether you are passionate or simply curious, in our area you can delight your taste with excellent products, in unique locations in the middle of postcard landscapes.
There are several wineries around Baia Azzurra. You can spend a day at a winery with a tour of the cellar and discover the secrets behind the success of the different productions. You can also enjoy good wine and typical local products.
Le Mortelle: about 15 km from Baia Azzurra, in Loc. Ampio, Le Mortelle is one of the most well-known wineries in the region and the name of the owner family, Antinori, certainly needs no introduction. The winery is located in a unique setting, on a green hill from which you can see the sea. It has 170 hectares of vineyards but it also deals with the production of organic fruit which, together with the wine, can be purchased in the shop of the estate, both fresh and as jams. The architectural structure inspired by the Pantheon is definitely worth a visit. It was built using natural products with an eye on the environment. Alternatively you can choose an aperitif-tasting at sunset based on typical local products in a enchanting setting.
Cacciagrande: traveling about 18km towards Loc. Ampio, you will reach the family-run winery Cacciagrande. Tradition, innovation and sustainability are the keywords of the success of this company which bears the name of the valley in which it was born. Here you will find typical wines of the Tuscan tradition, a tribute to the love for the territory, but also international varieties for an unusual but very interesting offer. The veranda surrounded by vineyards is the ideal place for your tasting in summer and in the shop you can buy not only wines but also oil or grappa.
Rocca di Frassinello: Rocca di Frassinello is more than 35 km from Baia Azzurra, but the cellar designed by Renzo Piano is worth a visit. Here you can enjoy the excellent wines from the terrace, in an area that is not only of natural interest but also of strong historical interest. The owners of Rocca di Frassinello intend to emphasize the connection between the area, the Etruscan civilization and the wine. The exhibition hall of the winery and the archaeological excavations are the plus to the visit.
